Horn Crown by Andre Norton tells the tale of the beginnings of Witch World as we know it through her books. Set as a prequel for the High Halleck cycle we see the settlers of Witch World first come to the land and follows Elron the kinless as he tries to at least restore his honor.
The book is mostly exposition as Elron and Gathea explore the continent to find the Iynne, the missing daughter of Garn and source of Gathea and Elron’s ire. We get to see the black tower, and we are introduced to the gods of the world. The rituals in the book are very neopagan in description and interesting in context.
Overall interesting and little more racy than her other books.
