Insight Meditation: A Step-By-Step Course on How to Meditate By Sharon Salzberg

As a practical guide to Buddhist meditation this book and CD set are a place to start. The Course is simple and easy to follow with anecdotes explaining different concepts. The CD should be listened to before using, to see if the voices are acceptable to your meditation practice. If you do not like them, as I did not, the books lay out the text of each meditation for you either read or record yourself.

The set comes with four CDs and some cards with various Buddhist concepts on them.

This is not my favorite type of meditation, but I could have used this book in college. The concepts are clear and interesting. In back of the book is a list of resources for meditation tools and groups. If you are interested in vipassana meditation, I highly recommend this set.
