La Faille de Kaïber by Mathieu Gaborit

Rackham’s Confrontation and Ragnorok games are not something I’m really into…except for the mini painting part of course. So when I bought this book I really bought it for the Sid de Kaiber mini in the pack.

But of course I read the book.

Unfortunetly Gaborit assumes that I have been enmeshed in this world for quite awhile. So I spent too much of the book learning about the world and races that it was hard to care about these characters which each could have used it’s own book in back story.

The world itself is beautiful. The sense of history, politics and ability of these people came fully contained in this small book.

The story line would have been better served to be an to a series…not a stand alone novel. Sid is called back from his self-imposed isolation to command the fortifications of Kaiber against a coming army. The penultimate battle would have been a fitting climax to the lives of Sid and his band with interludes on the Pallid or the human commander.

Over all it is good. But it could use more.
