Star Wars, Episode I – The Phantom Menace by Terry Brooks

When Episode 1 came out everyone was excited.

The let down that followed could be heard across the world. Unfortunately this was to be the best of the latest three movies. I bought the book in hopes that it would expand the world a bit more.

Terry Brooks is one of my favorite authors. I know from reading his memoir that this book was fun to write. Unfortunately all he was able to do place movie, nearly word for word on the page.

There is no expansion, no extra set. You still don’t know why the Trade Federation started all this. They wanted to tax shipping lanes. So they blocked Naboo…still no connection.

Most of the conversation was littered with references to the first three movies. Cute but boring. You can’t blame Mr. Brooks; it was all in the movie. If it is possible Jar Jar looks even more stupid in the book, and a 1000 times more pointless.

So if you want a rehash of the movie, this is fine. Other than that…I’ll go back and read the books for the first three movies.
