Nearly Lost

I nearly lost my dog last night. whin2009

This year we lost two pets (J. will say one since he doesn’t like cats). I found Seren dead in the snow…apparently liver failure…an old problem that came back. And Dagny got bone cancer. Halloween night we almost lost Whinnie, not to disease, but because she likes people.

She’ll go with anyone, anyone. The joke is that she’d try to make friends with a mountain lion. So we left for the NaNo kick off party last night; I patted her on the head and we left. J. noticed she was missing when he brought Ragnar in from then back yard. He went out looking for her then called me, thinking I took her with me. We raced home, M. and I and I really bawled. Really. She probably jumped out with some trick or treaters after we left. I don’t think anyone took her from the yard. I hope not.

I grabbed the electric lantern we had and M came with me as we walked the neighborhood calling her name and whistling. We skipped this one street because we thought we saw something. As we swung around we realize it was a cat if anything. So I led us back around to go up the street we left. We came across a party that was breaking up. A group in an old Landrover called out to us.

“Hey, did you lose a dog? A black pug?”
“Yes!”

And they produced Whinnie from the back seat. I don’t where they were going with her but the said something about planning to come back to the neighborhood the next day and post flyers. I was so glad to have her back I didn’t ask disturbing questions about why they were leaving with her or how long they had her or how they had found her.

So the pug is fine. I still have two dogs and two cats. And when this adrenaline rush finally drops I’m going to very very sorry.

22 Things I’ve learned from the 1st season of Lost

Movie night for the last 6 months has been Lost. We all missed the show and decided it was too convoluted to follow too late when we all actually got cable. Since the show is rumored to be ending soon and most seasons are on DVD…we figured this was a good time to start. Last night we finished Season 1. We found the show predictable but fun. I wanted to share a few things I’ve learned.

1. Doctors are self-defeating all the time. If there is something dangerous to do they don’t say, hey maybe I’m important enough not to carry dynamite, they do it. And if you tell them no, they get all sneak and do it anyway. Also doctors are great for charging into the woods with out any idea of where they are going. Luckily other people go get them when their done.

2. Heroin comes from the sky.

3. If you name wasn’t mentioned in the first five episodes of the show followed by a flash back in the first season then you are red shirt. The moment your name is mentioned the clock starts ticking and you will die within one to two episodes.

4. It is possible to kill the character with Super Stupid. Heroes are you listening?

5. Every camp needs a slut.

6. If a boat is anything smaller than a very large BARGE…they are not here to save you.

7. Do not leave people with children alone at any time…they are in capable of holding on to said children if you do.

8. The French are not be trusted.

9. If hope is what’s in the box…you’re not supposed to open it. Apparently that’s the only myth John Locke NEVER read.

10. LARPing is a good skill base for being stranded.

11. It goes to reason that the hunters spend three weeks hunting and come back with nothing you should probably send some one else.

12. Bathe DOWN stream.

13. Poisoning people is okay for fun.

14. Toys are worth more than gold.

15. Listen to the dude who has nothing better to do than complain. He’s paying attention.

16. Don’t wave Dynamite around.

17. Discussing the important stuff is the easy way out. Why give all the details to something to prevent misunderstandings when you have people try to kill each other instead?

18. Everyone has a death wish.

19. Faith is scary.

20. Science is scary.

21. Socially Inept Gamers are to be feared.

22. Children with psychic powers and the ability to destroy the world should be sent to deserted islands. It’s just best that way.

There is TMI in this Post Amoung the Weekend Updates

So no, the weekend did not start out well with my computer dying, again. I’m actually extremely upset now as I know it’s a hardware issue. At the end of the week I should have an update on that. Any bets on what I’ll get from Dell this time?

Writing went well this weekend. Not only did I finish a chapter, but I’ve joined a new critique group. This is looks much more committed than my last group and we have a good range of folks both in ability and background. After they left I managed to pound out another 1000 words. Creativity abounds.

We did Aia’s b-day party this weekend. McDonald’s totally dropped the ball. Nothing was ready, no one seemed to know what to do. They managed to get their act together in the end but dang. We’re not going back there next year. So I need to scout out a new place.

Heroes sucks now…have I told you that? The suckage is so bad that they are now sticking random sex in for the hell of it. Noah actually waited to start shooting until after teh sexes. Stupid. Hiro is still my fav as he’s the ONLY character to learn from his mistakes. And the only guy who deals with the bad guys first. Chances of continuing to watch this show though are near nil.

Our movie night is now on LOST. Day late and a dollar short I know. We’re finding the show fairly predictable, but good anyway. We can deal with that. People say it’s gets weirder. We’ll see.

Now for the TMI. My period started this weekend. The bad thing about that? It’s only been two and a half weeks since my last period. Not good. In fact very bad. The last time this happened, I was in the middle of massive cancer screenings which boiled down to the hypothyroidism. Has it gone further in the wonky? Or is this the PCOS? With the hair loss, the bloating, the mood thing I’m worried. Doc on Friday. Hoping we can deal with this with a medication adjustment. Hoping.
